Yatton, Congresbury, Claverham and Cleeve in North Somerset may be close to the urban sprawls of Bristol
and Weston super Mare but each has a long and fascinating history and amazing archaeology. A Roman
villa sits beside the river Yeo at Wemberham and there are Romano British pottery kilns in Congresbury.
Cadbury Hill Fort has not only Iron Age features but post Roman (when its inhabitants were trading with the
Byzantine Empire) and nearby woods contain evidence of mines and a number of
enigmatic, possibly post Roman, enclosures.
YCCCART is ideally located not only to fully record existing archaeological sites but
to reveal new sites.
